Pranamam – 2015, Birth
Centenary Celebration of Archbishop Benedict Mar Gregorios
08.09.2015
The jubilant success of Pranamam-2015 became
another milestone in Kuwait Malankara Rite's Movement (KMRM)
History. As part of the Birth Centenary of Metropolitan
Archbishop Benedict Mar Gregorios, KMRM had organized a Program
titled PRANAMAM-2015, which was held on Friday, 4 September
2015, at Carmel School Auditorium, Khaitan, Kuwait.
His Grace
Most Rev. Yoohanon Mar Chrysostom, Bishop of Pathanmthitta,
Kerala, inaugurated the function. During the inaugural speech,
the Bishop offered praises to Mar Gregorios and focused on his
contribution to the Political, Social, Cultural, Agricultural
and Economic field of the society of Kerala.
During the presidential address by Mr. George
Mathew, President of KMRM, emphasized that Kuwait Malankara Rite
Movement got the privilege from the Malankara Catholic Church to
host one of the Centenary Speeches in Kuwait, representing the
entire Middle East and Northern Arabia.
Rev. Fr. Mathew Kunnelpurayidam, Vicar General of
the Apostolic Vicariate of Northern Arabia, in his felicitation
speech, recollected his memories of Archbishop Mar Gregorios. He
highlighted Mar Gregorio’s affection towards nature, as he has
witnessed on several occasions, how the great Archbishop valued
flowers and plants at his garden and property. Rev. Dr. John
Padipurackal, Spiritual Director, KMRM, recalled, how at the age of
eleven years, Archbishop Mar Gregorios gave him positive
encouragement to become a priest. Later he became a Catholic Priest
and providentially served Mar Gregorios as his Secretary. Mar
Gregorios could communicate with all, the educated and the
uneducated and people of all walks in the society, and without any
difficulty.
The Memorial Speech was delivered by honorable Hafiz P.H Abdul Gaffar Moulavi, Imam of Manakkad Valiya Pally,
Trivandrum and former WAKF Board Chairman. He was a close
associate of Archbishop Benedict Mar Gegorios in Trivandrum and
a renowned scholar and an orator. During his speech “Secularism
and the Secularist Political Situation of India", he presented
Mar Gregorios as a role model of Secularism. He recalled
pleasant memories of Benedict Mar Gregorios. As during the time
of communal riot in Poonthura, the “Shanthi Yathra” (Peace
March) lead by Benedict Mar Gregorios, Sawmi Saswathikananda and
himself to establish peace and communal harmony in Trivandrum.
He presented with tremendous emotion that during the time of the
demolition of Babari Masjid, Benedict Mar Greorios visited
Maulavi and hugged him and expressed his sadness and sorrow to
him.
Indian Secularism should live long as a model
for the whole world. Unfortunately, Indian Secularism is in a
precarious situation, and he expressed his concern over the
present situation in India. The Centenary Song, "Sathasangeethi"
by hundred singers and a short video presentation named
"Glimpses of a Great Legend" brought the distinguished
audience's attention to the life path of the Archbishop. Mrs.
Sajitha Skaria General Secretary, KMRM welcomed the invited
guests and gathering. While delivering the felicitation, Program
Convener Mr. Babuji Betheri, presented the value of Hindu
Culture and pointed out how beliefs are connected with nature.
Mr. Jomon Cherian Vazhathara, proposed the vote of thanks.

nature, concluded with a sumptuous lunch at 12.30 pm.

Holy
Father Pope Francis declared Blessed Kuriakose Elias Chavara
and Blessed Sr. Euphrasia as saints during a special Holy Mass
and Service at St Peter's Square at Vatican on Sunday 23rd
Novemebr 2014. His Beatitude Cardinal George Alencherry and His
Beatitude Baselios Cardinal Cleemis, Bishops, priests, nuns and
a large number of faithful from Kerala have witnessed the event. A delegation from the Indian
Government is taking part in the Canonization ceremony. KMRM
also wishes prayerful greetings on this special day.
Blessed Kuriakose Elias Chavara
Blessed Kuriakose Elias Chavara is reckoned as a social
reformer and visionary priest. He was declared blessed in 1986
along with Saint Alphonsa, who was canonized as a saint in 2008.
He has been credited with introducing reforms in the Syro-Malabar
Catholic Church. He popularized the Sunday sermon and retreat
for laymen; founded the first Indian congregation for men, the
Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI), and for women, the
Carmelites of Mother Carmel (CMC). He started the first printing
press at his monastery at Mannanam in Kottayam, which went on to
bring out the first Malayalam daily, Nasrani Deepika. His
pioneering contribution to society was "School along with
Church" - in 1864, he decreed that every church must have a
school. The practice continues to this day. Blessed Chavara also
started a special school for the weaker sections.
Blessed Sister Euphrasia
Lived in the 19th and 20th centuries, and led a life
dedicated to prayer and sufferings. She was a member of
Carmelites of the Mother Carmel (CMC), the congregation
established by Blessed Chavara in 1866. She was born in 1877 at
Kattoor in Thrissur district in a rich family, and was known as
Rose before making her religious profession. She joined the CMC
and became a nun in 1898, and took the name Euphrasia. She led
her life mostly in the convent chapel at Ollur in Thrissur, and
was called the praying mother and known as a living saint among
the nuns. The frequent letters she wrote to her spiritual father
Bishop John Menachery shed light on her life. "There was not a
single day in my life not to be afflicted for God," was one of
her prayers. She died in 1952 at age 75, and was buried at Ollur.
Years later, the tomb of the nun, who prayed for a silent and
secluded life, turned to a pilgrim centre. Several miracles were
reported from the faithful through heavenly intercession of
Euphrasia.
KMRM wish prayerful greetings on this special day.
